Humane society receives ‘powerful investment’ to expand service

A local pet food supplier made a massive contribution to the humane society for its campaign helping pets and owners in the Waterloo Region community.

Elmira Pet Products is giving a $100,000 donation to the Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth’s (HSKWSP) “Better Together Capital Campaign” to help build a new community outreach centre. As part of the donation, the humane society says it will be naming the donation intake area “The Elmira Pet Products Donation Centre.”

“We are deeply grateful to Elmira Pet Products for their extraordinary support,” said Victoria Baby, CEO of HSKWSP, in a press release. “This is more than a donation, it’s a powerful investment in the future of animal welfare in our region. Their generosity helps us expand our impact and continue providing vital services to pets and families who need them most.”

The future community outreach centre will be focusing on expanding HSKWSP’s capacity to help local rescues and pet owners in the community. This includes a new space for the Pet Pantry Program, along with other services such as surgical and medical care.

Jordan Baker, the director of development at HSKWSP said construction is expected to begin soon and are hoping to be open by next summer.

“It’s probably going to take in the range of 10 to 12 months for construction,” said Baker. “We are hoping that construction begins in the very near future, but we expect the building to be fully in place in 2026.”The goal of the campaign is $6 million. As of Thursday, the campaign has raised just over $4 million.
