Heat event feeling like 40 C this weekend for Waterloo Region

The hot start to the summer season continues in Waterloo Region this weekend.

Environment Canada is warning temperatures are set to increase over the weekend, factoring in the humidex, it could feel like 40 C in the tri-cities. The weather agency is anticipating daytime highs between 31 and 22 C, and overnight temperatures to barely dip, around 21 and 25 C.

Another wave of heat and humidity will move through starting on Saturday, and the warm weather will continue throughout Sunday as well.

“It will be hot and humid,” said 570 Weather Specialist Allister Aalders. ” We’ll have a mix of sun and cloud both days.”

The government body is asking people to be prepared to seek shade or indoors, especially for people at greater risk of heat illness, like older adults and children.

According to Aalders, both Saturday and Sunday will have chances for rain early on Saturday and later into Sunday.

By Monday, a cold front will move in, cooling temperatures to 26 C, but also possibly bringing some thundershowers along with it.
