Rainbows galore: GRT’s new Pride bus hits the streets

Grand River Transit will be celebrating Pride Month in style this year with its all-new Pride bus.

A colourful display of characters, set against a background of overlapping rainbows, was designed by local artist Sebastian Bailey, who has previously worked on design projects related to the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

“The illustrations for this design are inspired by all of the things that are important to me and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community,” Bailey said. “Love, diversity, expression, community, culture and family are all things I believe represent us as a community and Pride month as a whole. The overlapping rainbows in the background of the design represents how our community is intertwined in our locale.”

Regional Chair Karen Redman also spoke about the new bus, saying “[t]his initiative embodies our dedication to building a community where everyone feels they belong. Let’s continue to embrace and uplift each other as we celebrate Pride, unity and acceptance.”.

If you see the bus at one of the various Pride events in the region this month, you can get a special sticker of the artwork as GRT helps to celebrate Pride.
