Impaired driving is one of a long list of charges laid after a suspect fled police twice in Kitchener.
It all began just before 4:30, Sunday morning, around Victoria Street North and St. Leger Street, when a police cruiser’s automated licence plate recognition technology spotted a vehicle with unattached plates.
Waterloo regional police said the driver sped away from officers, running “several red lights,” and out of concern for safety, officers did not pursue.
Police said the same vehicle was spotted around Victoria and Weber Street East, about an hour later — this time police chased the vehicle, but had to call it off for, again, public safety concerns.
Another ten minutes later, and the vehicle was found parked on Queen Street North, and the driver and a passenger were found nearby and arrested.
Police said a 27-year-old man from Wilmot was charged with impaired driving offences, flight from police, and dangerous operation.
And a 27-year-old woman from Cambridge was charged with drug offences, and “assault peace officer.”
None of the charges indicate anyone was hurt in all this.
Anyone with information relating to the series of incidents is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
