It’s been two years since then 37-year-old Nathan Wise disappeared without a trace from the streets of Toronto, but his family is keeping hope alive.
Wise, who has Down syndrome, was last seen in the Shepherd Avenue and Jane Street area on May 12, 2023. Reports say he had moved to Toronto only recently and had left the house without his wallet or cell phone.
Wise grew-up in Waterloo Region, living in north Waterloo with his dad until his passing. His family lives in Kitchener.
At the time of his disappearance, the Toronto Police Service (TSP) launched an extensive investigation of the Jane and Shepherd area. At one point the canine unit was brought in to assist but failed to find anything.
At the same time, Waterloo regional police began searching trails and wooded areas around where Wise was known to frequent. Those searches also turned up empty.
His family then went about notifying public transit companies both locally and in Toronto, as well as service organizations and other groups, to keep an eye out for him.
Flyers have been posted in Guelph, Milton, Puslinch and Waterloo Region.
Toronto police are leading the investigation. In an email to 570 NewsRadio, TPS said, “at this time, we do not have any updates or developments to share with regards to this investigation, and the search for Nathan is ongoing.”
“We want to thank the public for all the tips that have been provided, and to encourage anyone who might have any further information at all to reach out to Toronto Police or to Crime Stoppers,” the release went on to say.
The family hopes by keeping Wise’ name and picture in the media, someone might have information about his whereabouts.
He is described as is 4’6″and 170 pounds with a full beard and moustache.
His family says if you see him, you can approach and speak to him as he loves talking about sports.
