Vehicle that runs out of gas results in drug charges for driver

Guelph police said that a vehicle that ran out of gas on Monday afternoon resulted in a slew of drug charges for the driver.

According to officials, just after 2:00 p.m. an officer saw a vehicle break down on Edinburgh Road South at Wellington Street West. The officer parked behind the vehicle with his emergency light on.

While speaking to the person, the officer noticed he was “twitching” and “appeared to have scattered thoughts.” That’s when the cop administered a roadside sobriety test, which ended with the driver performing poorly.

The accused was sent to a police station where officials concluded he was impaired by drug.

The police officer on scene also found a baggie containing suspected cocaine beside the driver’s seat.

As a result, a 28-year-old Guelph man is facing charges of impaired driving, refusing to comply with a demand and possessing a controlled substance.

Man charged in 2022 break-in spree

Guelph police also updated the public on a case that happened in 2022, saying they have now arrested a suspect.

On July 31, 2022 police were called by several businesses saying there was a break in overnight. In each incident, glass front doors were smashed. Minor thefts were reported from three of the businesses. The suspect caught on video at some of the locations was using a baseball bat to smash the doors.

This same suspect was also seen driving a silver Mitsubishi, which had been reported stolen in London, Ont. days later.

Police worked from the scenes and nearly three years later were able to identify and locate a suspect.

As a result, a 42-year-old man from London, is arrested and charged with five counts of break -and-entre in relation to the businesses in Guelph.
