Routine truck inspection finds stolen Waterloo pickup in shipping container

A pick-up truck reported stolen from Waterloo has been found, thanks to a routine MTO inspection of a truck hauling a shipping container.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says in a post on social media the Ministry of Transportation inspectors stopped a truck on Highway 50 in Brampton, Tuesday afternoon.

He said when the MTO inspectors asked to see some paperwork, the truck driver was not able to provide any information about the contents of the container.

Schmidt said inside the container were two pick-up trucks, reported stolen from Waterloo and Toronto. The container was reportedly heading to Montreal, and “obviously, these trucks would never be seen again.”

The truck driver is charged with possession of and trafficking of stolen property.

Schmidt said the investigation continues.
