Falling icicles in Cambridge send multiple people to hospital

While milder weather is certainly welcome this week after the recent major snowfall and frigid conditions, it seems there’s a hazardous downside.

Waterloo Regional Police had to close part of Main Street in Cambridge because of falling icicles.

Police said ice started falling off a roof in the area and struck multiple people on the sidewalk.

An unknown number of individuals were taken to a local hospital. Injuries are believed to be minor.

The dangerous situation led to a partial closure of Main Street between Water Street and Ainslie Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the road would reopen once fire and property standards officials deemed the area to be safe.
