City of Cambridge exits X; says social media platform is no longer trusted

The City of Cambridge has exited X.

The City of Cambridge announced Monday that it is no longer using the social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.

X has been facing increasing scrutiny since Elon Musk took over and rebranded it.

Cambridge cited rising concerns about the platform’s reliability, accountability, and direction for its decision.

“This decision follows ongoing concerns about the platform’s viability as a trusted space for public communication as content found and promoted on X, includes racism and misinformation,” read a statement from the City of Cambridge. “The City feels X no longer aligns with the values of inclusivity, respect, integrity, service and responsible communication.”

As of Monday afternoon, the City of Cambridge deleted its X account.
