Three charged in attempted jewellery store robbery at Conestoga Mall

Another jewellery store robbery was attempted over the weekend inside Conestoga mall in Waterloo.

Four males allegedly entered the mall with their faces covered just before 6 p.m. on Saturday. Regional police say the suspects were carrying duffel bags.

They were seen by mall security who contacted Waterloo Regional Police Services (WRPS) as they watched the four males approach a jewellery store inside of the mall. The suspects were escorted by security from the mall. When police arrived, all of the males attempted to run away.

Two of the males were arrested by police on scene and the third arrested at a nearby business in Waterloo. The fourth suspect was able to flee from officers in an unknown vehicle that day and still remains at large.

The three arrested suspects were found carrying three empty hockey bags, two hammers and two crowbars. No physical injuries were reported.

Regional police arrested and charged an 18-year-old from Toronto, a 16-year-old from Mississauga and a 17-year-old from Brampton.

Those charges include:

Attempted robbery;
Disguise with intent;
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

The accused are in police custody awaiting a bail hearing.
