City of Cambridge launches tariff impact survey for local businesses

With so much left to be seen regarding the impact of U.S. tariffs on Canadian businesses, the City of Cambridge is gathering input as it works to provide support if needed.

The Tariff Impact Survey aims to better understand the concerns of local businesses and what challenges they may be anticipating from the tariffs, should the tariffs materialize as stated.

Conducted by the City’s Economic Development team, the survey will collect information about which sectors are expecting challenges, the size of those businesses and the extent of which they import or export goods.

“This survey will help us get a clearer understanding of those challenges so we can best advocate and pursue meaningful support resources,” Michael Launslager, City of Cambridge, Director of Economic Development, said in a press release.

In the same release, Mayor Jan Liggett said, “The strength of our economy combines both local and international business and I want to make sure that as we make decisions, we do so in the best way possible to assist those businesses and keep them on a stable track.”

The City says its Economic Development Team is working with its partners at the Chamber of Commerce, the Waterloo Region Economic Development Corporation, municipal partners, and other levels of government to try to find ways to mitigate potential impacts.

Business owners are encouraged to reach out to the City of Cambridge for more information, or to schedule a business consultation.
