What to do around KW this Family Day

After a week filled with shoveling the driveway, a holiday Monday comes at the perfect time. Snow is expected to lighten up Monday morning with a daily high of -9 C. But bundle up yourself and your loved ones and get outdoors because there are plenty of activities throughout the region for a fun-filled Family Day.

What is closed?

There are many services that are closed on Family Day. Closures include all regional administrative offices, banks, waste management sites for residential drop-off in Cambridge and Waterloo, all library locations and city halls.

Most retail locations, including beer stores, LCBOs, and most grocery stores are also closed.

Indoor activities

If you’re tired of the snow, there are a variety of indoor activities taking place this weekend.

Outdoor activities

If you’re gearing to enjoy the snow after the past few mild and dreary winters, there are plenty of outdoor activities to get you and your family out the door.

Free fishing weekend

It is also free fishing weekend across Ontario this Family Day meaning that anyone can fish without a license as long as they follow daily catch limits and other rules. Head out on the lake at some of the Grand River Conservation Authority Parks like Guelph Lake, Rockwood or Shade’s Mill to try your hand at ice fishing.

Authorities are reminding individuals to only go out on ice that has been deemed safe and to have with your safety materials like ice picks and a life jacket.
