Premier Doug Ford was in Cambridge on Friday to celebrate a significant investment in patient care at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
“We have achieved an amazing milestone, the finishing of our capital redevelopment project,” said Patrick Gaskin, CEO and president of Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
The redevelopment cost $280 million and included sections of the hospital like Wing B’s in-patient units equipping it with more privacy and accessibility, the newly opened laboratory space and surgical day care. In all, 156,000 square feet of space was renovated and upgraded.
“Back 10 years ago, we had 150 beds. That’s a 33 per cent increase in our bed capacity, which allows for better patient care, able to serve our community,” said Gaskin.
“We’ve got a growing, aging community and we need to be able to have the services here to meet that need.”
The hospital will also be hosting an open house on Saturday to give the public a chance to do a self-guided tour of their new facilities. That event runs form 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
