New year in Waterloo Region welcomed by heavy snow
A snow squall watch is in effect for Waterloo Region.
This comes after a snow squall warning was issued Wednesday night bringing around 12 cm of snow to some areas of Kitchener by midnight.
A winter weather travel advisory was also briefly issued Thursday morning, but cancelled by 10:45 a.m, which had called for an additional 5 to 10 cm of snow by late Thursday.

Environment Canada is now calling for more significant snowfall to arrive Friday.
Throughout the day Friday, some areas could see more than 15 cm of snow, with an additional 15-20 cm expected into Saturday evening.
The snow squall watch for Friday warns the lake effect snow could make travel hazardous as, “surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
