First snow, then cold making the official start of winter
Morning commuters woke up to fresh snowfall, and slippery conditions on Friday.
No weather alerts were in effect for Waterloo Region as of 6 a.m., but many parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) were dealing with heavier snowfall. A winter weather travel advisory was posted for parts of the GTA Friday morning, including Milton and Mississauga.
That advisory ended around 6:45 a.m.. It had warned of poor visibility, and heavy snow Thursday night into Friday morning. The December snow paves the way for some bitter cold this weekend, as winter officially begins at 4:21 a.m. Saturday, Dec 21.

570 NewsRadio Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi says there won’t be much snowfall Saturday and Sunday, but people will need to bundle up.
“The weekend overall is quiet, if you have last minute errands to run, you’re good to go. However, if you have a holiday party, it may impact your wardrobe choices, it’s freezing this weekend.”
Wind chill values on Saturday could dip down to -24 C, and as low as -22 C on Sunday.
It will warm up a bit on Monday, as we reach those last few days before Christmas.

Andreacchi expects temperatures to hover around -2 C with light snow throughout the day, hopefully paving the way for that white Christmas.
