ION train knocked off tracks after crash, charges pending

A collision brought a lengthy disruption to ION service between Kitchener and Waterloo on Thursday morning.

Police said the crash happened around 9:40 a.m. on King Street West and involved a vehicle and the LRT.

No one was hurt and while the investigation is ongoing, charges are pending.

Grand River Transit confirmed the impact of the crash pushed the ION train off the tracks.

King Street was closed at Andrew Street for several hour for repairs. ION train service was also halted between Waterloo Public Square and the Kitchener Market station, although a bus bridge was implemented for public transit riders.

ION train service fully resumed to its regular schedule shortly before 6 p.m.
