Attack in downtown Guelph leads to attempted murder charges

Charges have been laid following an attempted stabbing in downtown Guelph.

Police say the incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 10, at around 12:40 a.m. when the force received calls of a disturbance. When officers arrived, they found a man in his 30s who was attacked by another man and allegedly stabbed in the neck with a knife.

The victim was taken to a Hamilton trauma centre for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police add that the two men in question were known to each other, with the attack said to be unprovoked.

A 33-year-old Guelph man has now been charged with attempted murder, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon. He was held for a bail hearing Sunday and remains in custody.

A court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13.
