Premier Ford in Cambridge to celebrate new vaccine production line

Premier Doug Ford was in Cambridge on Friday to tour the Novocol vaccine manufacturing facility in the Sheldon Drive area of the city.

At the announcement, Novocol announced the completion of a new fill-finish production line for Moderna’s mRNA vaccines. The plant had Moderna’s mRNA vaccine set to be produced at the Cambridge plant. Specifically the vials and syringes needed for the vaccine, which is made at the Moderna plant in Laval, Que.

Premier Doug Ford spoke at the announcement and said the plant will ensure mRNA vaccines are produced in Cambridge to help with the province’s growing life science sector.

“It’s going to create good paying jobs throughout the region and importantly, it will provide people in Ontario with life-saving vaccines when they need them,” said Ford.

The pharma company based on Wolseley Court, announced a partnership with Moderna last spring. At that time, the province announced $4 million in funding for the project.

Friday’s visit was listed as an “inauguration event of their previously announced production line at Novocol’s facility in Cambridge, supporting domestic end-to-end production.”
