There is an effort from the Region of Waterloo to make the downtown core of Elmira safer and more “pedestrian-focused.”
Talks are continuing to see what a potential new truck bypass in the Arthur Street and Listowel Road area could look like.
It’s all part of a larger effort to improve Arthur Street (Highway 85) between Waterloo and Elmira, and ease traffic flow through the downtown core of Elmira.
As of right now, the region is still in the public consultation portion of the plan, looking to hear from residents next month.
A public consultation meeting is being held at the Woolwich Memorial Centre on 24 Snyder Ave. S. from 7 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 7.
Any designs for a potential truck bypass, or road improvements are expected in the spring-summer next year, with an environmental study starting in December 2025.
As for any road improvements on Arthur, the region is focusing on Arthur Street from north of King Street in Waterloo to the south of Elmira at Listowel Road.
Details on the EngageWR project page read, “The work will consider facilities for people walking, rolling, cycling, and using public transit; it will also feature safety improvements and intersection improvements.”
People can have their say on the matter by heading to that same project page.
