Missing family last seen in Kitchener found safe in Saskatchewan: police

A family who went missing near Kitchener has been found safe according to Waterloo Regional Police, but in a different province.

Waterloo Regional Police announced on Sept. 18 that 43-year-old Trinh Nguyen and 44-year-old Ho Hac Nguyen were reported missing, along with a 5-year-old boy named Alex.

On Thursday, police confirmed the family of five is from Vietnam. They arrived in Toronto in early August, before travelling to Kitchener to spend time with family friends.

The three missing family members were seen on Sept. 1 in the Doon Road and Rockway Drive area when they left a residence in a ride-share vehicle to visit an unknown friend at an unknown location. They left their two other kids, aged 12 and 14, at that residence.

On Friday, police announced that the family had been located safely with friends in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan after a member of the public recognized them from their picture online.

The investigation is ongoing.

Waterloo Regional Police thanked the public for their help in the investigation.
