Panthers stun Jackfish in Game 1 of IBL playoff series

It’s being called a “David and Goliath” series, and Thursday night, David won.

The Kitchener Panthers scoring a big extra-inning win against the Welland Jackfish in their Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) playoff series.

A two-out RBI single by Raul Gonzalez in the 10th was the winning run for the Panthers, with a 3-2 final.

This puts the Panthers up 1-0 in the best-of-five series. The team finished the regular season 18 games back of first place Welland, just squeezing into that last playoff spot.

Welland dominated the IBL this summer, with a total of 32 wins.

Game 2 is at home in Kitchener, at Jack Couch Park, which also marks Fan Appreciation Night. The first 100 fans will get a prize, with a draw for Panthers swag.

First pitch is 7:30 p.m.
