Flair flights at YKF cancelled or delayed after weekend summer storm

The summer storm on Saturday, that led to tornado warnings and even a twister touching down in Ayr, is impacting local fliers this week.

Those flying with Flair to and from the Region of Waterloo International Airport have had to make other plans, with numerous flights cancelled or heavily delayed, due to the backlog from Saturday’s storm.

Kim Bowie, director of communications with the airline, tells 570 NewsRadio the tornado warning led to delays and cancellations all weekend, with most of the airline’s flights unable to land at YKF on time.

Needing to meet the minimum rest requirements mandated by Transport Canada, the airline said it doesn’t have enough staff to keep flights on time Monday.

“We used as many crews as possible to cover flights with heavy delays through the weekend,” Bowie said. “We sadly need to reset our network to minimize the impact on YKF and the rest of our network moving forward. Our customers were notified long before they needed to come to the airport, and we are working to get everyone on their way as soon as possible.”

The airline noted each customer received options to refund or rebook their flights. Impacted flights on Monday included the Flair flights to and from Charlottetown (cancelled), St. Johns (delayed), Calgary (delayed) and Winnipeg (delayed).

Those flying in and out of the regional airport are advised to check their flight before heading out.
