Popular detour route near Guelph’s south limits closes for 2024

A lengthy closure has now rolled out on a stretch of Wellington County roadway— and a popular detour route around Highway 401 traffic.

Wellington Road 34 is closed between Concession Road 7 and the newly constructed Wellington Road 54, just west of the Hanlon Expressway.

That’s largely the result of ongoing work on a new interchange on the Hanlon Expressway, between Wellington Road 34 and Maltby Road, as part of efforts by the Ministry of Transportation to improve Highway 6.

Traffic heading through the area of the Hanlon Expressway on Wellington Road 34 will need to detour through the area of the new interchange overpass, between Sideroad 20 and the expressway.

Wellington Road 34 is expected to remain closed until the summer of 2025. More about the improvement project can be found here.
