Hwy. 401 problems: Fuel spill WB at Cambridge ONroute, crash EB at Hwy. 6 S

There were a pair of problems on Highway 401 just east of Waterloo Region early Monday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported a fuel spill just before the Cambridge ONroute, which shut down a westbound lane for the clean-up.

A transport truck reportedly struck debris on the highway and punctured its fuel tank. The diesel spill was contained around 2:30 p.m.

A right lane on the 401 westbound remained closed in the area as OPP expected it would take about two hours to clear the transport truck from the shoulder.

All westbound lanes reopened near the Cambridge service centre shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Around 2 p.m., eastbound 401 lanes were also temporarily closed between Highway 6 South and Guelph Line.

OPP confirmed that closure was due to a two-vehicle crash that resulted in minor injuries.

One of the involved vehicles was reportedly sitting sideways in the middle lane after the impact, which prompted the eastbound closure.

The closure cleared ahead of 3 p.m.
