Little Short Stop prepares to sell alcohol: ‘Could be a one-stop shop’

The customers want it, and it will not increase the risk of theft, so Little Short Stop stores said the chain is gearing up for stocking and selling liquor.

CityNews 570 spoke with Robbie Broda, project manager for the Waterloo Region based chain, at their store in Cambridge at Dunbar Road and Hespeler Road, where there’s a brand new LCBO store in view of the store’s front window.

Broda said the stores won’t start selling alcohol until September 5, but its getting ready now.

“This is something that our customers have been looking for, for a long time. They stop for their cigarettes, they stop for gum, chips — this could be a one-stop shop.”

She adds their stores operate beyond the LCBO’s hours, so it will be convenient for their consumers to pick up alcoholic beverages at Little Short Stop.

Broda maintains alcoholic beverages on their shelves will not pose an extra risk of theft, saying, “Theft has been rampant a lot lately. It’s not even with beer or wine, all of our products are subject to it.”

She also argued Little Short Stop is already one of the best convenience store chains when it comes to age verifications: When customers come in for lottery tickets, tobacco products or other age restricted merchandise.

Little Short Stop operates 26 convenience stores around Waterloo Region and Guelph.
