U of G professor’s post on Trump shooting draws threats: Police

Threats are being investigated related to a University of Guelph professor’s social media post about the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump.

The professor quoted another post on X showing Trump on stage with a bloody ear immediately after the shooting, adding their own comment: “When 4 inches really matters.”

It was interpreted, and condemned, by users on X as the professor wishing the bullet that grazed the former president’s ear had struck him square in the head.

That professor’s account on X has since been made private.

Guelph Police confirm to CityNews 570 they were made aware Sunday evening “of threatening comments received by staff at the U of G related to a professor’s post on X.”

Police say they spoke to officials with the Campus Safety Office, and the involved professor.

The police investigation is ongoing.

A brief statement issued by the university reads, “We are aware of comments posted to social media over the weekend by a University of Guelph professor. We are taking this seriously and are currently looking into the matter.

“The recent assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump is horrific and deeply concerning. The University of Guelph does not condone violence of any kind. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with those affected by the events of Saturday, July 13.”
