Cruising on King returns for another year to downtown Kitchener

For over 25 years, Cruising on King has taken over King Street in downtown Kitchener with classic cars and entertainment.

It’s returning Friday, July 12 starting at 5:30 p.m. and running until 9:30 p.m.

New this year, the City of Kitchener has added food trucks, extra seating and a licensed bar area.

Steve Roth, manager of special events for the city told CityNews 570 that Cruising on King features vintage cars that often date back to the 50s.

“If you’re a car lover, if you’re not a car lover, if you just love looking at really cool things, it’s an amazing event to be at. It’s a great event to bring the family out,” he said. “We’ve also got a licensed area this year: we’ve never done that before. So, there is quite a few new things this year.”

The event is set to feature about 100 vintage cars that include hot rods to vintage Corvettes, classic Volkswagen Beetles and more.

CityNews 570 listeners will likely recognize the singer of the Rolling Stones tribute band – Beggars Banquet – a former, longtime morning show host. Glenn Pelletier will take the stage as the singer of the band doing the vocals for Mick Jagger.

“A lot of people know Glenn from that, from being on the radio, but I got to tell you he’s one of the best Mick Jaggers that you’ve ever heard. He’s got it down perfectly.”

“On stage you won’t even recognize him,” said Roth.

“Whether you’re a car lover or not, there’s going to be plenty to do. Plenty to see, plenty to eat, plenty to hear. The weather’s supposed to be great, so I would say please do come down and visit us in downtown Kitchener and enjoy Cruising on King.”

Motorists are also advised to review the City of Kitchener’s road closures page to plan their route before heading downtown.
