Local high school choir performs with rock acts on the big stage

By Matt Hutcheson

A group of teenagers from Guelph have been taking the stage with some high profile rock bands in recent weeks, singing backup vocals in front of huge audiences.

The Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute chamber choir is already well decorated, regularly placing at or near the top of local and provincial music competitions. But their performances last week with Chicago rock band Wilco and 80’s legends Foreigner last month, have been exposing their skills to new audiences.

Their most recent performances came on back-to-back nights at historic Massey Hall with Wilco. The group joined the band for their encore, singing California Stars and Cruel Country.

Back on June 15, the choir joined Foreigner for their hit I Want to Know What Love Is, in front of over 15,000 fans at Budweiser Stage.

It was actually the third time the choir has performed with Foreigner, but the first time since 2019.
