Kitchener council planning committee approves stacked townhouse development

The Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee in Kitchener has approved a development proposal for stacked townhouses.

The proposed development at 179 Jensen Ave. would see 56 units spread across three blocks of 12, 20 and 24 units on the 0.73 hectare piece of land. The area would also have 67 parking spots, including eight visitor parking spots, three barrier free parking spots, 15 future EV parking spots and secure bicycle storage.

“This is a great infill, and its a space that has been underused for many years,” said Ward 2 councillor Dave Schnider. “It’s a great neighbourhood with lots of amenities nearby and I’m really excited to see people being able to live in this area.”

The council report notes the the site is vacant and undeveloped. It is believed to be the former site of a landfill that operated in the 1920s.

Full approval of the development proposal will be decided by a full council vote at a later date.
