Waterloo man charged with impaired driving, weapon, drugs offences after OPP pullover

A Waterloo driver is in deep trouble with the OPP after a traffic stop resulted in several charges, and the alleged discovery of drugs and a loaded gun.

On Friday, May 24, an OPP officer spotted a black car being driven erratically on Wellington Road 26 near Erin, in the middle of the afternoon.

A statement from the OPP on Tuesday this week does not explain exactly what the driver was doing that caught the attention of the officer, but the long list of charges indicate stunt driving, and impaired driving.

The OPP seized a loaded gun, 500 grams of cocaine, and $10,000 in Canadian cash.

The charges against the 49-year-old from Waterloo are:

  • Operation While Impaired
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt – Excessive Speed contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused man was held for a bail hearing.
