Cambridge council approved another tower development on Water Street South on Tuesday.
The two-tower development at 201 Water Str. S. and 66 Highman Ave. will have 330 units across the two 15-storey towers and six-storey podium between them.
The design includes 416 parking spots for residents of the towers and visitors, as well as 117 bicycle spaces.
Modifications were made to the original design, including removing a nine-storey tower between the two towers, adding emergency access on Highman Avenue and supporting a heritage designation for a 170-year old stone built residence on the land.
“I think what you’ve come back with is admirable and kudos to you and your company for listening to not only council but the neighbours, it’s all about the neighbours,” said Ward 2 Councillor Mike Devine.
The developers, NPG Planning, have committed at least 20 spaces to be affordable housing, selling at a maximum price of $418,000. Their spokesperson, Mary Lou Tanner, told councillors they would be working with the region to ensure their status is kept if they are sold.
“We’re still working through those details,” said Tanner when asked by Ward 5 councillor Sheri Roberts.
The site is just south from another development site at 193 Water St. S, that will see a five-tower development with 990 units.
