On Monday night, police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in a plaza parking lot in the Glasgow Street and Ira Needles Boulevard area.

Police believed the vehicle was involved in a gas theft that happened earlier in the day at a Woolwich business.

Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop but the male driver allegedly sped away, driving over landscaping features and almost hitting a police cruiser in the process.

No one was hurt and police did not initiate a pursuit because of public safety concerns.

About 20 minutes later, the male driver’s female passenger reportedly returned to the plaza and was spotted inside a business.
