A substantial road reconstruction project is expected to begin in Cambridge on Monday, bringing an overhaul to a portion of Beverly Street.
That work will roll out in stages to minimize impact to local residents and traffic, with the first stage focused on Beverly Street from north of the CP rail tracks to the Samuelson Street / Elgin Street North tie-in.
The City of Cambridge has also warned of closures in the following areas, beginning Monday:
- Intersection of Elgin Street North and Samuelson Street for 10 days
- Intersection of Beverly Street and Samuelson Street until early Fall
Beverly Street is expected to be closed to all through traffic from just north of Dundas Street North to Samuelson Street with the project anticipated to be complete by December. Samuelson Street is also closed between Kimberly Road and Elgin Street North. Detours have been posted in the area.
That work will bring a list of improvements to Beverly – mainly, a new pedestrian underpass that runs next to the existing vehicle underpass.
Also included in the road reconstruction project is the replacement of all underground utilities and surface works; improvements to storm sewers, curbs and sidewalks, watermains and more.

Stage 2 of the reconstruction project will focus on the area of Beverly Street south of the CP rail tracks to the tie-in north of the Dundas Street North roundabout.
