Hit and run leads to police searching for driver in Waterloo farm fields, multiple charges laid

A suspected drunk driver is facing a long list of charges after reportedly hitting another car, fleeing from the scene, severely damaging a police cruiser, and then attempting to hide in a field in Waterloo.

Early Sunday morning, police officers first saw the driver of the Hyundai hit a vehicle on Regina Street North, fleeing the area along University.

He was seen a short time later in the Bridge Street West and Northfield Drive East area, where officers tried to stop him, but he managed to get away.

The Hyundai was found about 10-15 minutes later, empty, off Martin Grove Road around 1:45 a.m.

After a nearly half-hour search of farm fields in the north Waterloo area, the driver was found.

A 35-year-old man from Kitchener is facing numerous charges including driving while drunk, and while under the influence of drugs, flight from police, and failure to stop.
