Bylaw officials hand out 16 fines over St. Patrick’s Day weekend in Waterloo
City of Waterloo bylaw officials were busy over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
The city said between Mar. 15 at 5 p.m. and Mar. 18 at 7 a.m., officials responded to 75 calls for noise, nuisance, and lot maintenance related complaints.
16 penalty notices were also issued during that same time span. A city official said it’s believed all the notices related to an unsanctioned street party in the university district on Saturday.

- Operate Business Without a License ($400 fine) – One penalty notice issued
Waterloo Regional Police said to CityNews 570 in an email that data is still being compiled and when the data is ready, it will be presented to the Police Services Board.
Officials from Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University discouraged students from participating in any unsanctioned street gatherings over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The City of Waterloo asked students to stay at home and celebrate responsibly.
Videos were posted to social media showing massive crowds on Marshall Street at Regina Street. Ezra Avenue was fenced off for a third straight year to prevent students from gathering on that street.
