Final score: 5-1.

A couple of the big names on the night were Matt Sop and Eduard Šalé.

Sop nabbed two goals, and Šalé went home with three points on the night – a goal and two assists.

CityNews 570’s Colour Commentator Paul Fixter said after 19 games with the Rangers, Šalé is finding his groove.

“He looks a lot more comfortable and feeling really good out there … and as the coach said, he wishes he would shoot more, he’s got a good shot, so Eduard if you’re listening, keep shooting that puck, because it seems to be working right now.”

Fixter noted Sop is also finally getting rewarded for his hard work again.

“He’s played some really good hockey, he just hasn’t been rewarded offensively for it, tonight he was. I thought he had another gear tonight, he looked really fast, came through the neutral zone with speed, and gets rewarded with two goals, makes him one shy of 40, he’ll top that 40 mark before this season is over.”

Sop and Šalé got first and second stars of the game, respectively. Hunter Brzustewicz took the third star with two assists on the night.

Fixter said another take away from the game was the strong penalty kill.

“You always want your goaltender to be your best penalty killer and tonight there is no question that Jackson Parson was Kitchener’s best penalty killer … they (Owen Sound) are going to their shots because they are number one, but they (Rangers) did a real good job of not allowing second and third chances and to hold off the number one powerplay in the league is pretty impressive.”

Up next for the Rangers, the Flint Firebirds at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Friday night. Broadcast time on CityNews 570 is 6:35 p.m.
