Cambridge city council approves revised housing development

Cambridge City Council has approved a revised housing development plan by Blacks Point Development for 410 Queens St West.

The site will house a maximum of 1,300 units across seven buildings, with the highest building being 16 storeys. The plan was first proposed last year and initially had building ranging between 12 and 30 storeys in height, along with office space.

Some of the changes came following concerns over building height, shadow impact and traffic.

Cambridge mayor Jan Liggett applauded the developer for making the changes so quickly in two years and said they “had the community’s interests at heart.”

“I just look forward to even more of this type of project in our community,” said Liggett. “We’re building a good community together.”

The delegation for the developer Black Points Development, Dave Aston of MHBC Planning, said the collaboration between the developer and city staff was crucial in the final plan coming together.

“I get to stand here and answer easy questions, answer hard questions some times, but its really a result of a collaboration of a number of people,” said Aston.

He noted a decision has not been made on if any of the units will be considered affordable housing.

The development includes a dog park, a parkette, an amenity terrace and a naturalized linear park.

Construction is expected to be completed in three phases.
