David Menary, one of the founders of the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame spoke with CityNews 570.

He said staff are devastated by the damage to display cases and some memorabilia but, are committed to cleaning up the hall and getting it back open.

In terms of a timeline Menary said it’s likely the hall of fame won’t reopen during the rest of the Christmas season due to the level of damage.

“It might take us a little longer then we’d like but, in any case we’re trying to do it as quickly as we can.”

Menary said nothing was stolen from the cases and believes the hall of fame was simply an unfortunate victim.

He said the cost of repair will likely be more than $5,000 but, said it’s to early to give an exact number.

Despite the vandalism Menary said he and staff have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support since news of the incident first circulated.

He hope’s to fully reopen in the new year.
