Fake spy, fake love, real victims: Waterloo man charged, $2M stolen
He was not a spy, he was not in love with his victims, but a Waterloo man did allegedly steal $2M from several victims over 15 years.
Regional Police say they’ve arrested a 49-year old man in a complicated, long-running series of romance scams in which the suspect pretended to an agent of CSIS, which is the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
They allege the suspect would set up romantic relationships with female victims, and talked them into giving him money for making fake investments, and to support his lifestyle.
