Rangers’ Hunter Brzustewicz, Carson Rehkopf named top performers of the month

Two Kitchener Rangers’ players have been named top performers in the Ontario Hockey League.

Kitchener Rangers defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz has been named OHL defenceman of the month, while forward Carson Rehkopf has been named OHL player of the month.

Brzustewicz is leading the league in points with 25, scoring five goals and recording 20 assists in a 13 game span. He is also riding a 12-game point streak heading into the month of November.

He has five three-point games this season in the first month of the season. He’s the first Rangers defenceman to be named to the honour since Ryan Murphy in January 2012.

Brzustewicz was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the third round, 75th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

He was acquired by the Rangers from the Barrie Colts on Jan. 9, 2022 after being selected by the Colts in the 4th round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.

Carson Rehkopf is leading the league in goals scored with 14. He has added nine assists to his point totals, good for second in the league next to his teammate with 23.

Rehkopf also led the league in shots on goal with 62 and three game-winning goals. He’s had consecutive four-point nights on Oct. 13 against Barrie and Oct. 15 against Windsor.

He was selected in the second round, 50th overall by the Seattle Kraken in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Meantime, the Kitchener Rangers have started the 2023-24 OHL season on a tear winning 9 of their first 13 games of the season.

The Rangers have scored 65 goals which is tops in the league so far. Sault Ste. Marie is the only other team with 60+ goals scored in the first month. There are only two teams (Mississauga and Sarnia) who have scored 50+ goals.
