‘It’s an amazing surprise:’ Councillor Scott Hamilton calls safety measures on Myers Road a big win
The safety of Myers Road has long been a topic of discussion in Cambridge and now an interim solution is expected before the end of the year.
This comes after many residents with children who attend Holy Spirit Catholic Elementary School and Moffat Creek Public School have voiced their concerns to Ward 7 Councillor Scott Hamilton, who has been relaying their frustrations at City Council.
Hamilton told CityNews that parents finally got some good news when the Region of Waterloo announced plans to reconstruct Myers Road this year and add many of the requested safety measures.

The only problem is the work has been delayed. Hamilton said it’s led to “a perfect storm” of safety issues.
“Parents are basically frustrated that there’s just a ton of traffic on this road, there’s no place to park for schools, there’s danger crossing the streets and this has been going on for a decade. There’s been no substantial changes in the infrastructure of the roads.”
On October 24, Hamilton brought forward a motion asking for temporary safety solutions on Myers Road, but between submitting the motion to the city and reading it at council, he recieved some new information from the region.
“They’re actively looking at putting in an interim pedestrian crossing [at the intersection of Myers Road and Lisbon Pines Drive/Gatehouse Drive], a level D, which is signs, pavement markings, all cars have to stop, and that will hopefully be put in that intersection before December.”
Hamilton added that a spare crossing guard has been placed there, and he will remain at the intersection of Myers, Lisbon Pines, and Gatehouse until a full-time crossing guard has been recruited. He told CityNews that his motion would change if those plans comes to fruition.

The motion was deferred to the next council meeting on November 28th.
