Shinerama charity returns to Laurier to fight cystic fibrosis

As students prepare to return to class, Wilfrid Laurier University is getting ready for the return of one of their largest and longest fundraisers.
It’s called Shinerama, and the event raises money for Cystic Fibroses Canada.
Matilda Morrison, coordinator of Shinerama, explained that the event will start with a Cystic Fibrosis walk around Waterloo Park that will include several speakers.
After the walk comes the Shinerama carnival, featuring an inflatable obstacle courses, a dunk tank, music and a pizza eating contest.
“Cystic fibroses is a disease that effects young people, and it’s the number one killer of young Canadians,” Morrison stated. “We feel a personal connection to the cause.”
The annual charity event has been running since 1961, and has helped make Laurier the top fundraising post secondary school in Canada for the last five years.
“We were lucky enough to raise over $30,000 last year,” Morrison remarked. “I’m hoping we’re able to break the record this year and raise even more money.”
This year’s Shinerama will take place on Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wilfrid Laurier University Waterloo Campus.
