Kitchener Splashpads open up for new season
With the weather starting to warm up, it’s that time of year for splash pads to open up across Kitchener.
Most splashpad locations officially open on Saturday, May 13th.
Mike Wigzell, the supervisor of facilities management with the City of Kitchener, said the early summer like temperatures have encouraged the city to open up splashpads earlier than expected.

“The weather is shaping up quite nicely. It’s been a long winter, it’s kind of hung on a little bit,” Wigzell explained. “Typically, we don’t open our spray pads until the May long weekend. However, we were able to kind of push along a little bit and get them open in advance of that.”
Wigzell added that it’s important to have amenities like the splashpads because it brings communities together.
Splash Pad locations include:
- Breithaupt Park, 806 Union St.,
- Centreville Chicopee, 141 Morgan Ave.,
- Chandler Mowat, 222 Chandler Dr.,
- Doon Pioneer Park, 150 Pioneer Dr.,
- Kingsdale, 78 Wilson Ave.,
- RBJ Schlegel Park, 1664 Huron Rd.
- Victoria Park, 80 Schneider Ave.,
