Kitchener man killed in collision on Highway 401 in Cambridge

Highway 401 Westbound was closed for around eight hours Thursday night, into Friday morning, after a fatal collision in Cambridge.

The highway was fully reopened around 4 a.m. Friday.

Ontario Provincial Police say a 30-year-old man from Kitchener was killed in the collision.

OPP note the crash happened around 7:30 Thursday night, when two vehicles collided.

One of those vehicles was a stalled delivery truck on the right shoulder of the highway.

The man behind the wheel in the other vehicle, described as a black, four-door sedan, was killed in the collision.

Meantime, OPP tell CityNews Kitchener, that during the closure, someone drove around the barricades on the highway.

That driver was stopped and charged.

A 35-year-old from Kitchener is facing charges including impaired driving, excess blood alcohol and dangerous driving.
