Terry Fox’s brother visits region to thank volunteers, donors

Fred Fox, the older brother of Terry Fox, is in the region today as part of a 'Gratitude Tour.'
Fox met with Wilmot council this morning, and is also spending time in Waterloo.
“I do this so we can say thank you to all the volunteers, and participants across the country,” Fox said.
42 years ago, on September 1, Terry stopped his marathon of hope in Thunder Bay after 143 days and over 5,000 km.
Since then, close to $900 million has been raised for the Terry Fox Foundation which helps fund cancer research.
“Canada has some of the best researchers in the world, and through the Terry Fox Foundation, through the Terry Fox Research Institute, is able to fund researchers,” Fox said. “They're making huge advances, and the survival rates are so much better.”
This year, the Terry Fox run will take place in person for the first time since 2019. Nearly 600 communities across the country are expected to take part in the run which is on Sunday, September 18.
That includes several organized runs taking place throughout the region.
“We're all coming together again after two years of having to do everything virtual,” Fox said. “Folks can get out there on September 18 with their families. You don't have to run, you can walk, bicycle, whatever you want to do. Come together, it's a celebration, and support cancer research.
