‘Cyber incident’ delays start to bus service for some local students

A 'cyber incident' that targeted the Waterloo Region District School Board in July will impact bus service for some students when classes resume in two weeks. 

According to a release from Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region, the start of student transportation will be delayed for certain students in both the Waterloo Region District School Board and Waterloo Catholic District School Board. Staff maintain that “most students” will be able to ride their school bus on the first day of school.

Students that have been assigned to taxis will also be able to meet their September 6 start date.

Meanwhile, students enrolled in special education programs, and those whose routes rely on small or adapted vehicles, will have their transportation services beginning on September 12.

Those looking for more details about their child's bus route are encouraged to visit the Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region website after August 29, or at 519-744-7575.

Additionally, students that have moved in the past three months will have their school bus service begin on or after September 19. 

Families are also invited to provide any updates to student information by contacting schools after they reopen on Monday, August 29.
