Details announced for Canada Day in Wilmot

Organizers of the 2022 Canada Day in Wilmot celebrations have made a few announcements in regards to this year's celebrations.

Waterloo Region's Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, will serve as grand marshal of the festivities.

Indigenous artist Adrian Nadjiwon also designed the new logo, which is described as follows:

“The logo features a feather, a First Nations symbol of honour, trust, respect, and dignity, centered over a stylized maple leaf which emerged in the 19th century to become a well-loved symbol of character and Canadian identity. The maple tree was a prominent feature of the landscape in the eastern parts of Canada and was valued equally by Indigenous and settler communities for its sweet sap and the goods derived from it.”

The 40th anniversary of Canada Day celebrations in Wilmot will take place in front of the Grandstands at Norm S. Hill Park in New Hamburg on July 1.

It will begin with an Indigenous Sunrise Ceremony at 5:45 a.m. Opening ceremonies will then get underway at 2 p.m. There will also be free Canada Day cake and fireworks to end the day.
