Nearly 50 people fired for not complying with UW’s vaccine mandate

The University of Waterloo has confirmed to CityNews 570 that as of March 24, 49 people have been terminated for not complying with its COVID-19 vaccination policy.
However, a UW spokesperson said the majority were not faculty employees. They could not elaborate further due to privacy issues.
They noted it's a small fraction of those visiting campus, as more than 99 per cent of students, faculty, and non-faculty have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
Wilfrid Laurier University confirmed it has not terminated any employees under its mandatory vaccination policy.
Any workers who were non-compliant were placed on unpaid leave and those with active contracts will be invited back to work in-person on May 1, when the university's policy is paused.
Laurier said it will continue to follow recommendations from public health and is encouraging its community members to stay up-to-date on their vaccinations, in case the policy needs to be reintroduced in the future.
