Residents in Breslau will have access to closer to home healthcare service

Breslau residents will be joining Kitchener and Cambridge residents with access to a Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic.

The announcement came on Friday that the province is funding $910,660 annually to Waterloo Region Nurse Practitioner-Led clinics to help patients in the community access medical services.

Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris said a clinic like this provides patients with the exact healthcare needs of a family doctor, without actually having one. With one already in Kitchener and one in Cambridge, this clinic care model has proven to be effective.

“Breslau is a growing community, and it is great to have a service like this there. We have been trying to find ways to provide easy care to residents even throughout the pandemic to alleviate the stress on our healthcare system. Looking at ways we can get creative and stopping people from having to go to the ER or hospital for medical needs.”

The clinic will offer wrap-around health services. This includes basic medical needs, and if specialized care is needed, nurses can provide patients with the recommendations and steps to move forward with their medical needs.

The funding will help to hire staff for the clinic.

“We will be able to hire three or four new nurses and some clinic staff and reception. They are making use of space very well. It's in a strip plaza inside a pharmacy. It's a one-stop shop for your medical needs,” Harris said. “It is good that they are not taking resources away from other clinics. They will be able to share things around as needed.”

Harris adds it's time to reduce “hallway healthcare model” in hospitals.

“Looking at ways as government we can listen to the communities and figure out what their needs are and try to move forward and provide the best health care as possible.”
