Region increasing capacity so residents can receive their COVID booster shot
NEWS RELEASE
REGION OF WATERLOO

Due to the rapidly evolving Omicron situation in Ontario, Waterloo Region is ramping up its vaccination efforts so more third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine can be administered as quickly as possible.
A third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine given 168 days after a second dose boosts a person’s immunity after their original vaccination. At this time, anyone 50 years of age and older is eligible for a third dose if it has been 168 days after their second dose. Appointments are required for third doses.
The Region of Waterloo is increasing capacity at the Cambridge Pinebush vaccination clinic so more people can book an appointment to get their third dose at this location. There will still be appointments available at Cambridge Pinebush for children 5-11 years of age who need to get their first dose.

The Wellesley vaccination clinic is adding additional clinic days to its schedule which will increase the opportunity for residents in Waterloo Region’s rural communities to get a third dose.
The Hockey-Hub vaccination clinic will be returning to Bingemans on December 22-23. (More dates to come.) This innovative model has proven to be an efficient and convenient way to ramp up Waterloo Region’s capacity to get more doses in arms quickly. Vaccination clinics at Bingemans will be administering third doses only to individuals 50 years of age and older.
The Region of Waterloo will be returning to community centres in priority neighbourhoods with pop-up mobile vaccination clinics. Plans are underway to bring back the mobile vaccination bus to make it easier for some of the most vulnerable members of the community to get their third dose of the vaccine.
The Region of Waterloo is also collaborating with local pharmacies and primary care providers to increase the number of appointments available for first, second and third doses.
Anyone who is currently eligible for a third dose is encouraged to get it as soon as possible for better protection against the Omicron variant. Appointments can be booked at participating pharmacies and doctors' offices, or at a Waterloo Region clinic on the Region of Waterloo website: regionofwaterloo/GetaVaccine.
